Kuumba Academy Charter School is the right choice for parents who seek an academic environment that values parents as key partners in the education of their children, honors the individuality and unique learning style of each student, utilizes the arts as a tool for academic learning, and supports multicultural school experiences. Kuumba Academy believes that children have positive responses to a learning process that challenges their capacity for learning and captures their imagination. The school's philosophy is based, in part, on the work of Howard Gardner of Harvard University. Gardner's work promotes the concept that students have multiple modes of intelligence and thus can and should learn in many different ways. Kuumba Academy's core educational belief is that parents are the primary educators of their children. Together the parents, teachers and children create a circle of learning that is designed to result in high academic achievement.


The Arts program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nuturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Rodel Foundation Delaware co-invested with the Foundation for Science and Math Education to pilot the International Math Curriculum, also known as Singapore Math, in Kuumba Academy.
