Student Identification for the volunteer tutoring programs is the responsibility of the school.
- The Ideal student candidate for RAPS Intervention, (Reading ASSIST for Primary Students) is significantly behind in the areas of written language and reading. These would include students preferably in grades 1-3, who are experiencing difficulty acquiring the following skills.
- Letter identfication, recognition and / or sequencing
- Phonological and phonemic awareness
- Sound-symbol associations
- Decoding and encoding
- Students for Kindergarten Intervention, a distinct and separate volunteer program, are tutored in small groups of three. A maximum of nine students, grouped by ability, can be tutored by a single Kindergarten Intervention team. These kindergarten students should be experiencing difficulty in the areas of:
- Phonological and phonemic awareness
- Sound-symbol associations
- Oral language development
