Volunteer to Help a Struggling Reader
Did you know that 20-30% of students will find learning to read the most difficult task they have ever encountered? These students need additional help to become proficient readers. Reading ASSIST Volunteer Tutors are trained in a specific , research-based , reading intervention program. After training , volunteers tutor struggling readers one-on-one or in small groups , one half day per week , during the school day in a partner elementary school. Volunteers work as part of a team.
No prior teaching experience is necessary! If you have a kind heart , enjoy working with children , like to learn new skills , are willing to take training and complete a Criminal Background and Child Abuse Registry Check this may be the volunteer opportunity for you. With a commitment to tutor for an entire school year after completion of training , all materials and training are free of charge.
