Kuumba Academy will be closed on Thursday February 9th. Due to worsening weather conditions, school will now be closed.

Kuumba Academy’s philosophy is based, in part, on the work of Howard Gardner of Harvard University. Gardner's work promotes the concept that students have multiple modes of intelligence and thus can and should learn in many different ways. Kuumba Academy's core educational belief is that parents are the primary educators of their children. Together, the parents, teachers and children create a circle of learning that is designed to result in high academic achievement.

 Kuumba Academy’s Four Core Values
Respect
Responsibility
Creativity
Persistence

These core values represent what the Kuumba community considers important in the foundational development of our students. We believe that young people who incorporate these values in their lives will be better prepared to achieve academically and to become productive, caring citizens who will make a positive contribution to their individual communities and to the larger society.

At Kuumba Academy, we also subscribe to the seven Nguzo Saba principles,
familiar during the annual observance of Kwanzaa:

Umoja (Unity)
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
Nia (Purpose)
Kuumba (Creativity)
Imani (Faith)
