Mrs. Maldonado is an experienced school leader and former Delaware-certified teacher who has provided academic leadership to KACS for more than ten years. She has dedicated her career to at-risk students—serving as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, and Head of School for KACS—and has a proven track record in improving their academic outcomes. Mrs. Maldonado has expertise in data-driven instruction and decision making and participated in extensive training in these areas as an original member of the first cohort of the Vision Network schools. Mrs. Maldonado has a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Delaware and an M.Ed. in School Leadership from Wilmington University.

Mr. Brown is KACS’ Interventionist and Assistant to the Dean. He is a seasoned professional with experience in teacher training, behavioral classroom management, arts integration, and curriculum development, and his diversity in the arts, behavior management, and leadership in many areas of educational programming has earned him respect among the educational and cultural community. Mr. Brown earned a B.A. in Political Science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and an M.Ed. from Cabrini College in Pennsylvania.

Through her private practice, Dr. Coker provides medical services to a diverse patient population, including children, adolescents, and adults. Her work serves children, youth, and their families in ways that address a broad range of medical issues and require the leveraging of multiple resources and services.

Ms. Masters has been teaching in New Castle and Wilmington since 2009 with a track record of demonstrated success in the classroom. As a Delaware-certified teacher, KACS teacher since 2016 and member of the Kuumba Arts Cadre, Ms. Masters has made significant progress in integrating arts into the ELA classroom for our students and bringing computer science to Kuumba's after school clubs. Ms. Masters has a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Moore College of Art and Design  and an M.S.Ed. in Elementary Education from Neumann University.

Ms. Walker is a 10-year veteran of the United States Air Force with leadership and operational  experience. She is an experienced certified teacher of 14 years to include two years at the college level, eight years in NYC public high schools, and three years at KACS. Ms. Walker gravitates towards serving as a teacher to at-risk students and
dedicated to closing the achievement gap. At KACS, she serves as a eighth grade math teacher, instructional coach, grade team leader, and is a member of the KACS Instructional Leadership Team. Ms. Walker has a B.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems from Austin Peay State University, an M.S.Ed. in Middle School Mathematics from the City College of New York of the City University of New York (CCNY), and has 65 Doctoral Credit Hours in Education in Educational Leadership/Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix.

Mr. Fisher is a certified public accountant with extensive experience in private industry, public accounting, municipal government, and not-for-profit organizations. He is an active member of KACS’ Citizen Budget Oversight Committee and provides KACS with hands-on financial oversight. As former Board President of the Christina Cultural Arts Center, Mr. Fisher is experienced in nonprofit oversight and has completed the State of Delaware Board Finance training.

Ms. Jones-Avery has 25 years of experience with all operational aspects of not-for-profit business organizations. She has demonstrated her leadership skills by using cutting-edge development strategies in turn-around initiatives for under-performing operations. In her current role as Executive Director of the Christina Cultural Arts Center (CCAC), she has earned a reputation as a visionary leader in the Delaware arts, human services, and community development sectors. She successfully executed two capital campaigns that allowed vacant historic properties to become the sites of KACS and the CCAC. Ms. Jones-Avery has 30 Doctoral Credit Hours in Urban Affairs & Public Policy from the University of Delaware, and an M.A. in Health Services from West Chester University.

Mr. Moore is a private business owner and former KACS Treasurer. He has participated in board finance training with the state and provided fiscal oversight to KACS since 2008. As a private business owner and operator, Mr. Moore has more than 15 years of experience managing all aspects of his business, including his staff of fully licensed employees. He received a B.S. in Business and Accounting from Delaware State University and a Chartered Financial Consultant Designation from American College in 2010.

Dr. Thomas-Holder is a retired Delaware-certified high school teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching chemistry and physics, developing curriculum, and providing professional development. She is also a founding board member who holds a Doctorate in Psychology, and has worked with students in the arts as a former drama club director and served as a Cathedral Choir School Board Member.

Father, Talent Acquisition Professional, Mentor and Motivator. Born and raised in Wilmington Delaware and received his advanced education from Cheyney University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering Management. Also, while at Cheyney, he became a member of the highly esteemed Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Through the years he’s received various awards and certifications in his career of Human Resources and Management such as Human Resource Certification from Villanova University and the Society of Human Resource Management, Management through People, and Outstanding Strategic Staffing Partner for CSC. 

Over the course of more than 15 years, Herb has cultivated his craft in Strategic Talent Acquisition with various fortune 500 companies spanning markets in Global Information Technology, Banking, Staffing and Global Healthcare Technology. 

Through it all, he’s come to realize the revelation of the calling on his life to lead, motivate and encourage people to be their very best they aspire to be. This has led him to over six years in leadership capacity of Men’s Ministry Groups and working with various non-profit organizations such as, Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church Brotherhood, Leander Morris-Allen Clark Music Scholarship Foundation, Kuumba Academy Charter School, The Monday Club, One Village Alliance, Raising Kings and the United Way of Delaware.

Lemuel Miller is a lifelong resident of Wilmington, DE.  He is a graduate of Wilmington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. He is the program director for emotional support classrooms in the Appoquinimink School District.  Lemuel seeks to provide students with the therapeutic supports they need to be successful.  In addition to school counseling he also serves as a mentor to young men in the community.  He has worked in the area of suicide prevention for over 10 years. When he is not helping others in some capacity he enjoys traveling the world.

My name is Genelle Freeman-Saul and I’ve been with Kuumba Academy Charter School since fall of 2008. I am currently serving as the Dean of Students for grades K-4.  My role has changed throughout the years. First, I was a first grade teacher then the reading specialist and this is my second year serving as the dean. I became a member of Kuumba’s Board of Directors in the spring of 2018. Throughout my years here, I recognize how much I enjoy working with children. My goal every school is to ensure that all of our students know that we want nothing but the best for each and every one of them.

Arreon began singing with Doreen Falby and the Peabody Conservatory’s Children’s Chorus at the age of seven. Since then Arreon has had the opportunity to sing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltimore Opera Company. Arreon graduated with honors from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, with bachelor's degrees in Music Theory & Composition and Vocal Performance (opera) and went on to receive his masters of music degree in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance from the University of Delaware. Arreon has had the opportunity to conduct in venues such as St. Peter’s in Vatican City, The Kimmel Center for the Arts in Philadelphia, and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore.
